Rise: Get on the right side of 5 a.m.
Trade all-night partying for 5 a.m. wake-ups to invest in yourself (and surround yourself with people who do the same).
Born and raised in Pennsylvania by a father who suffered from untreated mental illness, and an emotionally distant, workaholic mother, Scott turned to alcohol and cocaine as an escape from his tumultuous childhood.
On April 8, 1997, Scott made the life-changing decision to get sober. His initial motivation came from adopting an active lifestyle, which included boxing, biking, and ice climbing.
The catalyst for his long-term sobriety was the support he gave to–and got from–others in recovery. After experiencing the transformative power of a healthy and connected lifestyle, Scott launched The Phoenix in Colorado in 2006. The Phoenix offers healing and hope through fitness classes and social events. “We believe in each other even before we believe in ourselves,” says Scott.
His new “memoir with a mission,” RISE. RECOVER. THRIVE. How I Got Strong, Got Sober, and Built a Movement of Hope, will be available in January 2025.
Scott lives in Boston with his wife and two children.
Trade all-night partying for 5 a.m. wake-ups to invest in yourself (and surround yourself with people who do the same).
This could be a short walk with your kids or a more comprehensive fitness routine. No matter what you choose, it will pay dividends on your physical and mental health, especially if you share that time with others.
By lifting others, you also lift yourself. Make sure to focus on building healthy relationships where the giving is mutual rather than one-sided.
